It really could happen to you

Many people think they will never be involved in a fire – and most of us think everyone has a smoke alarm in their home.

But this is not the case – fires can strike any time, anywhere. In fact, in three out of ten dwelling fires that occur in Wales, there is NO smoke alarm installed at all.

Within the space of just a fortnight earlier this year, two families from Eryrys near Mold and Amlwch Port on Anglesey were lucky to escape with their lives after firefighters helped them flee fires in their home. They had no working smoke alarms.

Watch our video - there are so many good reasons to test your smoke alarm

The three fire and rescue services in Wales teamed up with Wrexham Glyndŵr University and a well known North Wales based singer-songwriter to commission and produce an original short animation - 'Reasons to Test' - to highlight the importance of regularly testing smoke alarms.

‘Reasons to Test’ is an animated video featuring a crew of quirky characters going about their daily routines, accompanied by an original catchy soundtrack with music composed by singer-songwriter Daniel Lloyd.

The story behind the making of our video

The students who created the characters

Six students from Wrexham Glyndŵr University worked together to design and produce the three minute animation.

The work has provided an excellent platform to showcase their skills and will help build their future careers.

The students - Tim Davies, Thomas Purdue, William Parker , Ellis Roberts, Duncan Adams and Marta Gabiga - are currently studying the MDes and BA programmes in Animation Visual Effects and Game Art.

The soundtrack that brought the characters to life

Bilingual Welsh actor and singer-songwriter Daniel Lloyd composed the original music for the animation, bringing to life the colourful characters and scenes designed by the Glyndŵr students.

Originally from Rhosllanerchrugog near Wrexham and now living in Denbigh, Daniel is the frontman for recently reformed Welsh language band 'Daniel Lloyd a Mr Pinc', as well as a solo artist and established actor.
